The Why?

Where did the idea of Food for the Cure come from?

Unfortunately the idea of Food for the Cure came from tragedy. Brenda Fitzgerald was a daughter, sister, mother, wife, and a  middle school baker. She was a strong-willed woman that got diagnosed with Bile Duct Cancer. There was at the time no cure for this cancer and that meant all they could do was treat it to extend her life. She went to battle not for herself, but for her family. All so they could spend more time with her. Her son, Andrew, knew that eating a healthy diet of organic foods may help with her battle. But the unfortunate reality is that healthy foods like this cost a lot and when you have medical bills piling up it is pretty much impossible to afford for the average person. So Brenda had to make the hard choice and not eat these healthier choices. This is where the idea of Food for the Cure was born. Andrew thought what if there was a Non-Profit that was dedicated to giving these healthy foods to cancer patients for free? This idea simply set in his brain for years. Brenda lost her battle Dec. 11th 2016 without ever giving up and that is why Food for the Cure will be Andrew’s way to honor his mother. Maybe with healthier food easily available to cancer patients this will allow for more happy endings for people. And just maybe with the programs it can create it can eventually lower Cancer rates caused by the environment and by the choices we make everyday! Life is too short to let ideas and dreams just sit and collect dust. It’s now the time for us to work together and Grow Stronger than Cancer with Food for the Cure!
